Edition #1Â |Â Â Everything starts with agriculture

A warm welcome to the first edition of the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley newsletter, a monthly resource keeping you up to date with the latest Swiss food innovation news.
The last few years have seen a global rise in activity across the agrifood sector, no less in the Swiss ecosystem. One of the key roles of the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley is to highlight the innovative actors and initiatives in the food, nutrition, and agriculture field of Switzerland. By so doing, our ambition is to create an ever more connected ecosystem, an ever more thriving one. Each month, a different member of the SFNV will contribute to this introduction with their take on the thematic of the month.
In this edition, we're covering Agriculture. Because everything starts with agriculture. With one-third of Switzerland's land devoted to agricultural production, and the country producing over 60% of its nutritional needs, the agricultural sector makes up an important part of the Swiss economy. Our country has become a hub for agritech solutions, with notable startups including EcoRobotix, Gamaya or CleanGreens. The presence of unique research centers such as the Agroscopemeans agricultural innovation thrives in our country.
On a final note from me, I invite you to use all the resources our organization can provide to your full advantage. Follow our newsletter to stay up-to-date on the Swiss food ecosystem. You are welcomed to submit a press release on your innovative products and services to get promoted on our channels. And finally, you can also answer this email for more information on the SFNV.
We look forward to a fruitful and stimulating relationship with you all as we embark on this exciting journey. As a Swiss ecosystem, we have a unique opportunity to make a tangible and positive difference towards providing healthy diets from sustainable sources.
With kind regards,
Christian Schwab, EPFL President of the Executive Committee Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley
In a special interview to mark a new membership to the SFNV, Agroscope’s Head of Food Microbial Systems Dr Fabian Wahl discusses the diversity of their contributions to Swiss agriculture, food and nutrition –
from field to fork to fermentation inside the body.
Dr Wahl believes the country has the winning combination it needs to achieve this goal: forward-thinking and highly qualified researchers, a robust economy and a high number of engaged companies in multiple, interconnected sectors are all driving this trajectory.
Send your application before our upcoming General Assembly on the 17th of November 2020
